Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American performer and actress who toured for more than 40 years. London was a torch performer well-known for her smooth, melodic vocals and her languid contralto voice and recorded more than 30 albums of standards and jazz between 1955-1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her recording of "Cry Me a River" which she first performed on her debut album. Alongside her recording, London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year acting career started with film in 1944 which included roles for female leads in several westerns. She starred along with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) along with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. However she was prominent in the emergency show as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) In the show, she acted with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
